Ten years ago, Bjorn Kaashagen and his family were camping and, on a whim, decided to visit a Pizza Ranch franchise. They fell in love with the food and speedy service. But ever the businessman, Kaashagen saw more than just delicious pizza and chicken. He saw opportunity.
With a background in accounting and construction, Kaashagen had recently helped a business partner build a hotel, with room for a restaurant in the outlot on the property. He called the nearest Pizza Ranch to see if they would be interested in opening a second location next to the hotel.
“It must have been my lucky day because the Pizza Ranch Franchise Owners I called wanted to open a restaurant for their daughter. Once we completed hers, other Franchise Owners called us to build a Pizza Ranch for them. After building out so many Pizza Ranch restaurants over the years, my business partner and I became multi-unit Franchise Owners of our own with 14 Pizza Ranch locations,” Kaashagen said.
Kaashagen says that the secret to any restaurant franchise is finding good managers to run the business. He offers potential Pizza Ranch Franchise Owners some additional hard-won advice.
“The market has to be there. Location is important and it’s nice to be in a high-traffic area with a decent population base. Brand awareness is key.”
He also stands by the tenets of the Pizza Ranch culture, which is to treat everyone like family.
“You need to be a people person, have a positive attitude, and stay focused despite the bumps in the road. Be kind and caring,” Kaashagen said.
